why to cite PAUP

Postby uncia » Mon Sep 17, 2007 1:45 pm

Hi,

please, could anybody explain to me why it is necessary to cite PAUP, as it is usually done, with "Swofford 200something", when the software has been boughtfor money in a regular manner ? Should not be more appropriate to use the name of the company (e.g. Sinauer, USA) that sells the software, as it is done with isolation kits or Sequencher? I did not mean to be nasty, just curious. Thanx for comments.

Hi uncia,
you can follow the web site suggestion:
"Swofford, D. L. 2003. PAUP*. Phylogenetic Analysis Using Parsimony (*and Other Methods). Version 4. Sinauer Associates, Sunderland, Massachusetts"

in this way both author and company are reported.

Best

Hi Ibertolo,

thank you for your reaction. Many have read my question, just you were willing to reply. I know how PAUP is cited. What I do not understand is, why it has to be cited like that "Swofford...blabla...". If you buy a product, you usually mention only the compant name e.g. DNeasy Tissue Kit (Qiagen). If you use a free product, you cite the guy that created it e.g. MyBayes (Ronquist & Huelsenbeck 2003). I wanted to know, why just PAUP, a commercial product bought for money, should be different and be cited with both the author and the company. Again, I do not mean to be nasty, just would like to know. Thanx.

About Chemraz PVDF of chemical valve

Postby chongzivalve08089 » Wed Dec 10, 2008 6:10 am

PVDF (Polyvinylidene difluoride which is uesed chemical valve) is an engineering fluoropolymer and has a more limited range of chemicals performance and an upper temperature limit of 120 oC. Although replaced in many applications by the improved performance of PTFE (which is a material of chemical valve ) resins, it remains the material of choice for low temperature halogen applications.
